IMPORTANT INFORMATION DURING CORONA CRISIS

Due to the on all non-essential travel from third countries to the Federal Republic of Germany to contain COVID-19, the Embassy in Kigali is currently unable to process any new visa applications. Applications will therefore only be accepted or visas issued as an exception if the applicant can demonstrate the existence of compelling reasons that justify entry under the current rules.

In accordance with the recommendation of the European Commission of 11 June 2020, the following groups of persons are to be additionally exempted from the entry restrictions as of 1 July 2020, who will, accordingly, be able to submit visa applications again with immediate effect:

  • Family members of citizens of EU Member States and the countries associated with Schengen, as well as third-country nationals residing lawfully in the EU, regardless of whether they are returning to their place of residence
  • Students
  • Highly qualified personnel whose work is necessary from an economic point of view and which cannot be postponed or carried out abroad

Please note: Visas can only be issued to the above-mentioned persons once the EU Member States have implemented the above-mentioned recommendations of the European Commission.

You will be informed here without delay by the Embassy in Kigali in the event of further changes to this Situation.

The entry restrictions on all non-essential travel from third countries to the Federal Republic of Germany to contain COVID-19 may mean that you are not able to use a national visa issued by the Embassy in Kigali prior to the entry into force of the entry restrictions on 17 March 2020 during its period of validity. As soon as travel is possible again, a new visa can therefore be issued as part of a simplified procedure upon application. This fast-track procedure will be available if your date of travel has changed, but the purpose of your stay and destination remain unaltered. The Embassy in Kigali will inform you here without delay of any steps to be taken once travel is permitted again.
