Heike Uta Dettmann
has been German Ambassador in Kigali since August 2023.
Ms Dettmann started her career in the German Federal Foreign Office in 1987. Her assignments have taken her to Kinshasa/Zaïre, Washington D.C./USA, New Delhi/India, Addis Abeba/Ethiopia and Paris/France. Before being posted to Rwanda, she served as Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Athens/Greece.
At the German Federal Foreign Office, she was assigned to the South Asia Division, the Division for Southern Africa and the Great Lakes and has repeatedly worked in the Division for Export Controls of Military Equipment.
Ms Dettmann grew up and studied Economics in Berlin (West). She is proud mother of five daughters and has one grand-child. Her husband also serves in the German Federal Foreign Office.
