The cultural cooperation with Rwanda is comprehensive and versatile and mainly realized by Goethe Institute. Goethe Institute organizes film screenings, exhibitions, discussions, workshops and more.
Currently a Rwandan-German cooperation is refurnishing the Richard Kandt museum in Kigali.
German Senior Experts of Senior Expert Service (SES) work together with Rwandan institutes, schools, NGOs etc.
On special occasions the German Government invites Rwandan experts to participate in trips to Germany to exchange on subjects as for example urban development, preservation of archives, film festivals. Projects requiring limited funding e.g. donations of books or materials, promotion of cultural activities with link to Germany can be supported by the German Embassy.
In the educational field the promotion of the German language is an important focus of the German government. The Goethe Institute Kigali offers German language courses since 2016. Approx. 200 students are currently enrolled.
In the framework of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) cooperation with the College of Arts and Science of the University of Rwanda in Butare Prof. Rainer Schmidt holds lectures and also counsels students wishing to study in Germany. In 2016 DAAD supported 153 Rwandan master students in Germany and 43 German students in Rwanda. Based on the DAAD-Rwandan partnership agreement a first group of Rwandan scholars have headed to Germany in 2017.
DW Academy supports the training of digital media designer. Several scholarships of German Universities – e.g. in the field of agriculture, ecology, sports - are published and administered by the Embassy. The Green Hills Academy in Kigali is a PASCH-school belonging to the network of German partner school initiative and offering German as a second language.
