You can apply for this visa, if you are a minor and one of your parent is living in Germany and has a valid refugee status in Germany.

Before booking an appointment, please prepare the following documentation for your visa. The following documents are to be submitted personally at the Embassy after booking an appointment.

If there is another person than the one in Germany in custody, this person has to also appear to the appointment.

DOCUMENTS:

☐ Fully completed and signed application form for “national visa”. Both parents or the parent holding the sole custody have to sign the form. (here)

☐ Where applicable: Declaration fully completed and signed regarding contact details and power of attorney

☐ Valid passport (valid for at least 6 months and with at least two (2) completely empty pages)

☐ Recent biometric passport photos (see specimen photos, other photos cannot be accepted and delay the visa process)

☐ Invitation letter of parent indicating the address where the applicant will stay in Germany and explaining the situation

☐ If other parent stays in Rwanda: authorization for resettlement of child

☐ Copy of the passport of both parents

☐ Official certificate of recognition as a refugee of the parent who lives in Germany

☐ Timely notification in accordance with Section 29 (2) no. 1 of the Residence Act, which offers your spouse and minor children a simplified procedure for family reunification in Germany

☐ Original legalized birth certificate (“acte de naissance & jugement suppletif” when birth before 2016) (if it is a non-Rwandan certificate the authentication might have to be certified by the German Embassy of the respective country)

☐ If applicable: legalized original marriage certificate (“acte de mariage”) of the parents (if it is a non-Rwandan certificate the authentication might have to be certified by the German Embassy of the respective country)

☐ If applicable: legalized proof of change of custody (e.g. court order, documents about adoption, death certificate of parent)

☐ If applicable: Legalized acknowledgement of paternity

☐ Proof of adequate health insurance cover

Health insurance upon entry for at least 90 days of your stay that adheres to Schengen rules and regulations.

In its terms and conditions, travel health insurance can exclude protection if a long-term or permanent stay is planned. So-called incoming travel insurance can also contain such exclusions.

☐ In case of previous long term stays in Germany: deregistration confirmation from the registration office of the last place of residence

☐ Processing fee of 75 €. Payable with credit card (Visa or Mastercard) or in cash in RWF.

If you have not filled out the timely notification within 3 months after the recognition as a refugee:

☐ Tenancy contract of parent

☐ Proof of financial means of parent:

• work contract,
• pay-slips of at least the last 3 months AND
• bank statements of at least the last 3 months

☐ If the applicant is 16 years or older: Original proof of German language skills (equivalent A1 level of Goethe Institute)

Applicant of a nationality other than Rwandan:

☐ Proof of habitual abode by “residence permit/visa”
