You can apply for this visa, if your spouse is living in Germany and has a valid refugee status

in Germany.

Before booking an appointment, please prepare the following documentation for your visa.

The following documents are to be submitted personally at the Embassy after booking an

appointment.

DOCUMENTS:

 Fully completed and signed application form for “national visa” (here)

 Where applicable: Declaration fully completed and signed regarding contact details and power of attorney

 Valid passport (valid for at least 6 months and with at least two (2) completely empty pages)

 Recent biometric passport photos (see specimen photos, other photos cannot be accepted and delay the visa process)

 Invitation letter of spouse indicating the address where the applicant will stay together with the spouse in Germany

 Copy of the passport of the spouse

 Official certificate of recognition as a refugee of the spouse who lives in Germany

 Timely notification in accordance with Section 29 (2) no. 1 of the Residence Act, which offers your spouse and minor children a simplified procedure for family reunification in Germany

 Original legalized birth certificate (“acte de naissance”) (if it is a non-Rwandan certificate the authentication might have to be certified by the German Embassy of the

respective country)

 Original legalized marriage certificate (“acte de mariage”) of the parents (if it is a non-Rwandan certificate the authentication might have to be certified by the German Embassy of the respective country)

 Proof of adequate health insurance cover

Health insurance upon entry for at least 90 days of your stay that adheres to

Schengen rules and regulations.

In its terms and conditions, travel health insurance can exclude protection if a long-term

or permanent stay is planned. So-called incoming travel insurance can also contain such

exclusions.

 In case of previous long term stays in Germany: deregistration conformation from

the registration office of the last place of residence

 Processing fee of 75 €. Payable only in cash in RWF.

If you have not filled out the timely notification within 3 months after the recognition as a

refugee:

 Tenancy contract of spouse

 Proof of financial means of spouse:

o work contract,

o pay-slips of at least the last 3 months AND

o bank statements of at least the last 3 months

 Original proof of German language skills (equivalent A1 level of Goethe Institute)

Applicant of a nationality other than Rwandan:

 Proof of habitual abode by “residence permit/visa”
