Are you looking for a job in Germany?

Or would you like to have professional qualifications recognized in order to work in Germany?

Do you have a professional qualification or a university degree?

Do you speak English or German?

Then the Opportunity Card is a way for you to find a job in Germany without having to proof German skills or a job offer.

Have a look at this video and use the → Self-Check to check directly whether you meet the requirements.

The Opportunity Card entitles you to enter Germany for up to 12 months in order to look for a job there or to carry out measures for the recognition of foreign professional qualifications.

The prerequisite is that your living expenses can be financed for the duration of your stay. You can also take up a part-time job (20 hours per week) or do trial work while you look for a job. If you can already provide evidence of a planned part-time job, this can be included in the assessment of how to finance your living expenses.

With a German degree or a foreign professional or university qualification that is considered equivalent or comparable to German qualifications, you are considered a “skilled worker” in Germany and do not have to meet any other special requirements apart from financing your living expenses.

But even without an equivalent or comparable qualification, you can receive an opportunity card under the following conditions:

- You have basic knowledge of German (A1)

or

- demonstrate good English language skills (B2),

and meet one of the three following criteria:

- You have a foreign professional qualification that is state-recognized in the country in which it was acquired and that requires at least two years of training,

or

- You have a foreign university degree that is state-recognized in the country in which it was acquired,

or

- You have a professional qualification from a German Chamber of Foreign Trade, which requires training that corresponds to the requirements for a comparable professional qualification in Germany.
