Culture, Education and Sports
The culture of Rwanda is varied. Therefore the cultural cooperation with Rwanda is comprehensive and versatile and mainly realized by Goethe Institute. In very diversified fields the Goethe Institute in Kigali organizes film screenings, exhibitions, discussions, concerts, workshops and more.
In the educational field the promotion of the German language is an important focus of the German government. The Goethe Institute Kigali offers German language courses for adults since 2016.
Moreover the Green Hills Academy (GHA) offers German as a second language for its students. GHA belongs to the network “PASCH” (German partner school initiative) and is supported by the Goethe Institute Nairobi.
There is a considerable number of Rwandan students in Germany. The DAAD also offers scholarships for master studies in Germany and in-country- respectively in-region-scholarships. Here are more information about the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) (in German).
On special occasions the German Government invites Rwandan experts to participate in themed trips to Germany to exchange on subjects as for example urban development, preservation of archives and film festivals. Projects requiring limited funding e.g. donations of books or materials, promotion of cultural activities with link to Germany can be supported by the German Embassy.
Several scholarship offers of German Universities – e.g. in the field of agriculture, ecology, sports - are published and administered by the Embassy.
German Senior Experts of Senior Expert Service (SES) can counsel Rwandan institutes, schools, NGOs etc.
