Access to energy is in Rwanda still low, also compared to other East African countries. Therefore, Germany together with other donors fund the construction of regional transmission lines as well as the rehabilitation and construction of hydro power plants along the Rusizi River.

In the same line the global partnership „Energizing Development“ increases access of the rural population to renewable energy. In Rwanda EnDev provides loans and advice for the construction of small micro hydro power stations, solar systems and mini-grids.
