The Civil Peace Service and another GIZ-programme support Rwandan Civil Society Organizations in areas like reconciliation, peace education, women rights, youth and people infected with HIV.

Every year appr. 50 volunteers from Germany come to Rwanda to spend a year in the framework of various programs like weltwärts, kulturweit and IJFD.

Furthermore, many NGOs from Germany and the relief organizations of the two big churches Misereor and Brot für die Welt have been active in Rwanda for many years.

Since 2017 the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation established an office in Kigali.
