In his speech Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn then referred to the parallels in German and Rwandan history and coping with the past. According to Minister Spahn avoiding the division of societies is a common lesson of the two countries.

In his speech Minister Biruta pointed out that in the past two months four ministers and a delegation of the German parliament visited Rwanda which highlights the good relations both countries foster. After the speeches partners and friends had the chance to taste German delicacies such as Maultaschen, Käsespätzle, Bratwurst and Leberkäse (meatloaf).

2019 also marks the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, thus giving particular importance to the event. It was on 9 November 1989 that the Berlin Wall came down, allowing people from East and West to hug and cheer. Less than a year later on 3 October 1990 Germany was reunited.
